Tango was the Dog I always wanted!
Then the bummer came along, wrapped with the dreariness of the cold winter days! Someone else’s pet adoption application got accepted, and we missed out on bringing home Tango. C’est La Vie!
I hope you stay happy wherever you are, my furry friend!
Pet adoption organization PET SENTIMENTS:
As the pandemic reared its Hydra-esque head and impacted the world around us, it did not come across as a total surprise to see humans longing for companionship and belonging with their pets. Adopting a pet and taking care of it is a welcome change as well as therapeutic.
As more dogs are finding new homes, doting dog parents, pampered with treats, accessories, variety of food packages being delivered from the neighborhood pet store, or the various specialty dotcoms like Chewy or large players like Walmart, Amazon, Target, PetSmart, etc.
If forecasted numbers were to be trusted, Pet Industry would top 100 billion USD by the turn of this year. While expenditure on our furry friends has been growing steadily, the pandemic’s nature has accelerated the industry’s growth by increasing the base.
Let us have a quick look at the Google Trends chart for keywords like ‘adopt a dog,’ ‘pet food’ – there is an undeniable spike around the beginning of the lockdown. There were many pets available for adoption, and they got adopted in no time. The trend continued with the diminishing Supply and a surging Demand playing their balancing act.
On the Pet Industry’s business-end and among technologists, there is a renewed focus on Pet Life Cycle management services as a connected value chain. Pet Food, Accessories, Health Needs, Clothing, Managed Care etc is coming out of their silos too. Using Data analytics, Predictive modeling, accelerators and tools they can create a ecosystem where Help, Advice and nudges are available for aspiring and existing Pet owners.
Indicative questions from Pet Owners for Pet adoption:
- Which breed is a good fit for a family with a small child?
- My Dog ate chocolate! What do I do next?
- Which diet suits my Miniature Pinscher the best?
- What are my insurance options?
- Which Pet food brand is the best? Do I subscribe or order online?
- How do I train my pet? What are the services available?
- Which are the best pet hotels and day care nearby?
- How do I care for my senior dog?
And so on…
Everything that makes a Pet’s life happy has to be augmented, made predictable, and the Dog’s parents are proactively guided into each step. We will also see more partnerships coming up between retailers, Pet food manufacturers, Insurance providers, and the Vet fraternity.
The era of the non-linear value chain for the Pet industry is on the horizon, where we will see greater efficiency among businesses, delivering the most value at the lowest possible cost – and convenience for the pet parents and the furry pets.
The Rise of the Pandemic Pooches is on!
Woof! Woof!!
